  • Runnin' Runnin' and Runnin' Runnin'

I know it's been about a bazillion years since I've made a post. Or you know, six months, but I would like everyone to know that I am still very much alive, at least for the moment.

Jordan and I are busy with our marathon training. We have both committed to running marathons (that's a full 26.2 miles!) for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We are working with Team In Training to learn how to get off our butts and become real runners.

To date I've run a little over ten miles. For someone that's never run at all that's a lot.

The marathon I'm participating in is the Nike Women's Marathon taking place October 21st in San Francisco.

I am very much looking forward not only to the training for the run but also the experience of training for a marathon like this. We're not just running to run. We're running to save lives.

I've lost two very special people to blood cancer. I am dedicating this race to them. Every step I take will be a step in their memory used to help those who are currently being treated for blood cancers and those that will be treated for blood cancers.

With your help, we can continue to make the lives of the patients and their families better as they survive this horrific disease.

I ask that you please donate to my cause. I have agreed to raise $4200 for this marathon and would appreciate any and every donation. I would like to emphasize that I am not asking for money for me, but for the victims of blood cancer.

Donations can be made anytime at my Team In Training website:

You can also read my training blog to keep up with mileage and training stories:

Thank you for any and all donations, not only from me, but from those whose lives will be made better by your generosity!

    Love Actually

Tonight I had dinner at Memorial. That's right. I went back to Baylor to have dinner using someone else's meal plan. He apparently has twenty bazillion guest passes that expire by the end of next week so a whole huge group of us went to the cafeteria. Awesome. I was a college student again. Actually, I felt more like the creepy old person that wouldn't leave. Oh well. I got way too much food and am now at home being old and tired and slightly nauseous from over-eating/still mucous-y. I made the executive decision not to decorate the tree tonight. Mostly because I'm so tired right now I could go to bed and sleep through the half-day that I have to work tomorrow. Also partly because the house just isn't ready for a tree and we would have to hurry through the whole process. I don't want to hurry. I don't want it to be a chore. I am a little sad that our tree will only be up two weeks before Christmas, but we have been very busy. And by very busy I mean, well, very busy.

The cookie dough is made though. Perhaps I'll still make a few.

    For now, here's the debate:
If a movie is set during the Christmas season, is it a Christmas movie? (For example: Serendipity, Love Actually, Gremlins, Die Hard)

  • &*@!%!!!!!!!

    Dear Time Warner Cable,

My DVR has now erased two episodes in a row of Gilmore Girls. That's right. Gilmore Girls. My absolute favorite show. The one show a week that I absolutely have to watch. I blamed last week on a glitch, but now I'm starting to think you've got it out for me. Since it's Christmas I'm going to have a little more patience. Do not expect that to continue. I'd really have to get my quiet angry voice on the phone with one of your representatives. You know the one...

  • An evolutionary step backward...

Since the incident with my new worst enemy (at least until I heal) I have learned one very important lesson. Having two thumbs is quite important. It's hard to take a shower (especially when trying to keep the Bandaid dry), put shoes on, tie drawstrings and button buttons.

However, my cutting skills appear to be better than originally thought. The cut is very nice and clean so the skin has managed to mostly reattach itself and now just looks like a big blood blister (I just realized how gross this story is...). The pain has mostly gone away as well. It just hurts when there's pressure put on the very tip of my thumb. Should be back to normal in no time. For now though, I will keep using the Neosporin with pain killer and my thumb will be snug in my waterproof Bandaid. Quite attractive I assure you.

  • Happy Holidays

So I know my husband says that Christmas season doesn't start until December 1st, but he's wrong and we're all going to have to learn to live with that.

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend with our families, even though there were several events that could have dampened several spirits (traffic, speeding ticket, 1500 miles and two minor accidents). We are now home and well fed. The neighbor's dogs are home as well and apparently would like to share that with the world.

Time to start cramming for finals, preparing for a wedding and buying gifts. That's my favorite part. I love to buy gifts.

It's also time to start covering my house in penguins. There are several staring at me right now. It's fabulous. Can't wait to put up the tree and cover it with penguin ornaments. Yay!

Edit: Having a nurse as a neighbor is especially great when you almost slice off the top of your thumb cutting tomatoes and almost throw up/pass out. Apparently I'm a tough cookie. I also probably won't be using my left thumb for a couple of days. Another also, my husband is very good at handling crisis situations. Extra Kudos. Except I'm not sure he likes Kudos. Perhaps extra beer.
